How To Remove your Factory Tacoma Front Bumper to Install ultralisk4x4 Bumper ?
We would like to share with you how to remove your factory Tacoma Front Bumper. Hope this article will help you.
1. The first step is to take off the air dam and the skid plate.
Maybe there is an air dam on your Tacoma. If you have an air dam on your Tacoma, you're gonna need a 10-millimeter socket for that. If not, just ignore this. Head underneath to our skid plate using a 12-millimeter socket and impact wrench to remove it.
There are gonna be four bolts that are holding on the skid plate. When you remove these, please notice that the front has hooks and the skid plate is going to hang on. After you remove all the bolts, you can slide the skid plate off the hooks in the front and completely remove it.
2. Before removing the factory bumper, it needs to remove the two bolts on the inside that are connecting the support arms to the bumper cover.
You can use a 10-millimeter socket to remove those two. And there are two on the outside of the bumper that is going to be connected to the inner liner.
Using a 10-millimeter socket to remove bolts on the outside, which is connected to the liner. Then repeat that on the other side.
3. Take off our upper grille.
Using a 10-millimeter socket to remove the bolts in the center.
Then take off the two clips on either side of the grille. (You can use a clip removal tool or a trim removal tool in order to take these off.) It should just pop out. Same thing for the other side.
Since there is a wiring harness that's connected to the body from the grille here, you need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers and remove these two clips. Then pull it away from the grille and disconnect it up the plug. Just press those clips and push them down. You could also use a flathead screwdriver. (And maybe it is a little bit easier to pinch the clip with pair of needle noses and push down. )
After disconnecting at the grille, you need to disconnect this at the plug. You just have to press down and pull back.
Finally, all the hardware is removed. You can take your Toyota Tacoma upper grille off.
4. Before you take your bumper off and cut it, you need to do some preparatory work for this process.
You can place some masking tape and make a mark where you need to cut. And measure the distance that is about 20-millimeters in. (Suggestion: You can use painter's tape. It's a little bit easier. You can also use masking tape for this.)
Make a mark following this body line all the way down. And it need to gonna covered up a little bit at this corner.
5. Start to remove your Toyota Tacoma bumper.
First, start in the inner wheel well by removing this bolt that's holding on Tacoma inner fender liner and Tacoma fender here. It's gonna be a 10-millimeter socket. Click down at the bottom and remove that with a flathead screwdriver and a clip removal. So you kind of have to put a little bit of pressure on the back, and then that should slip out of place.
( Make sure that the inner liner is completely disconnected from the bumper. )
Next, Disconnect this front part of the fender.
You need to disconnect a couple of clips that are holding on the front of the fender on the bumper side. You can take it that soft pry tool, just gets this inner liner out of the way so you can access those clips from the back. Then, pull on the fender.
These two tabs are what you're gonna have to press in, and those are what's holding the fender to the bumper cover. Finally, repeat that on the other side and then move to the middle of the bumper.
Third, disconnect the fog light wiring harness and just depress the clip, and pull back. There is one clip that's holding on the harness to the center support. It needs to be taken the clip removal tool or trim removal tool and just take that off because that is connected to Toyota Tacoma bumper.
Fourth, remove the clips that are holding on the front part of the bumper.
There's gonna be four in the center here and one on each side directly under the headlight. You can use a trim removal tool or the pop clip removal tool in order to take them off, also use a flathead screwdriver.
Fifth, with the help of another person, remove the front bumper.
(Please kindly notice that it is gonna be attached on the junction there at the fender by a bracket, so all you have to do is pull it outward, give it a good tug, and then you will be able to fully remove the front bumper . )
Sixth, remove this plastic piece on our crash bar.
Seventh, remove the front part of this aluminum crash bar.
You can use a 14-millimeter deep socket and a small extension in order to give you more room. Remove the hardware where there's gonna be three studs. Then do the same thing on the other side.
Using a pair of needle-nose pliers and disconnecting the clip that holds the support bar from the crash bar to the inner liner. Repeat that on the other side.
Finally, remove the main center section of our crash bar.
Eighth, remove the crash bar mounting brackets.
Using the the14-millimeter socket to remove three studs.
Ninth, relocate this cooler.
You need to push it a little bit inward towards the radiator or the AC condenser. Remove the two bolts that are holding it in place. You can use a 12-millimeter socket, my electric ratchet, and also a 5-inch extension. (You definitely will need the extension on the driver's side. )
There's another bolt that's holding on the cooler lines behind the inner liner in the wheel well. You can use a 12-millimeter ratcheting wrench or a socket to remove that.
Pull the cooler out to attach welded nut plate. Take the relocation bracket, a stud, and a factory bolt. Put in the factory bolt and put on the washer and the nylon lock nut and thread that into place. Using a 13-millimeter socket, snug this up in the plates. Do same thing for the other side.
Finally, push the cooler back into place, line up those factory bolts in the factory location, and thread those in with a 12-millimeter wrench.
6. Cut your Toyota Tacoma front bumper
Please make sure of your mark that lines up before you start cutting using a body saw. It is gonna be a decent process just for getting this straight and making sure that it's cut clean.
After that middle section is cut off, you need to clean up the edges of the plastic. You can take an angle grinder or you could use sandpaper and do it by hand. Then take this tape off and put trim on.
7. Re-install your Tacoma bumper cover just like took it off.
First, put a clip at the front just to hold it in place. Or you can come around the side and pop this into its retainer. Same thing for the other side.
Next, You need to secure down the other four clips, two more in the front and then one underneath each of the headlights, and then re-secure the wiring harness.
And then, tuck the fender liner back into place and secure the clip down. Tighten two bolts with a 10-millimeter socket starting with the bottom one.
